POWER IN BELIEF
Bunker Bean was a timid weak boy. He didn't have much. His dad was an alcoholic. His Mom had died. When she was alive she had constantly criticized and corrected him. Bunker didn't have any friends. He was raised to believe he was a failure. That he would fail at everything. And it was true, he had failed over and over
again. Until one day... while out walking he came across a fortune teller. Mesmerized by the idea of discovering his
fortune he went in. But the fortune teller refused to tell him
his fortune, instead she told him: "I can tell you who you were... it's true. Before you were you, you were somebody
else." She told him: "You are the reincarnation of Napoleon. You are destined to achieve great things!" This news shocked Bunker out of his apathy. Could it be true?
He went to the library to read everything he could about Napoleon Bonaparte, the great
French Emperor. He bought posters of Napoleon and put them up on his walls. Read and listened to everything he could.
He began to imitate Napoleon's habits, attitudes and behaviors. Years later Bunker Bean was a rich and
powerful man. He had all the outward signs of a man with
immense wealth. One day he ran into the fortune teller, she had aged and her gray hair indicated she was no longer working. He thanked her for changing his life. He told her about how much he and his circumstances had changed.
To his astonishment she laughed! "I lied to you all those years before just to get your money, you are not the reincarnation of Napoleon!"
Bunker was crushed. He sank back in to his old ways, full of
doubt and disbelief about himself. But fortunately an acquaintance kept saying
to him: “As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he!” Bunker then realised that everyone is capable of being a great achiever if they only believe they are. He went on to become even more successful.
What you believe is incredibly important in what you can do.
So too is what you don't believe is possible
for you. These two forces of belief -
* what you believe
and
* what you do not believe
act like an invisible force that propel you to success or failure. Whether you believe you CAN or you CAN'T ... You are right!
